Today we arrived on our two week adventure to Morocco and and Italy. First stop Fes. We arrived 12 local time. Had an hour or two of R&R next to the hotel pool and then off to explore the city. I have to admit, after reading a few books about Islam, I was a little scared to come, but come to find out the Moroccans are a pretty low key, accepting, non-judgemental people. Today we went to a 14th century fortress that over looks the "Old" 8 century city. Crazy that we think anything in America is old. Then we went to the gates of the Royal Place, and walked around the Jewish quarters of the city.

8th Century buildings covered in 21st century satellites.

"Mallah"--Salt--or Jewish section of the city. They call it Mallah because the Jews sold salt. 1 kilo of salt=1 Kilo of gold. Not a bad business.

Gates to the Royal Palace.

Entrance to the 14th Century Fortress.

Wool coat anyone?

See the white minaret? Supposedly this is the site of the first University in the world. Interestingly enough, founded by a woman. How that happened in a Islamic country of all places, is beyond me.
